I have posted the 1st and 2nd part of the Adsense optimisation video few days ago. Now this is the part III or the latest one. To summarize, the first 2 videos talk about the unit size and the design of the ad unit. The 3rd video talks about positioning the ad units. This could be varied for each blogs so i’ll also share my own experience on my blogs. If you have different experience you may also share it here.
Basically the 3rd video said that no matter what is your ad size and how good is it look it will be useless if nobody see that. So positioning your ad unit is critically important. You may heard about heatmap before. It illustrates the ideal placing of an ads on a page layout. As you can see on the picture, the colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance). From this we can see that the great positions are :
Above the fold of a page (the section of the page a user can see without scrolling)
At the end of an article
Aligned with content
Let’s take a look at the following illustration video :
What about my experience?
Adsense is about Click Through Rate (CTR). I’m sure there’s maximum CTR for each blogs no matter how optimized is your blog. So all you can do is to increase your blog traffic. Event if you get only 1% CTR but of 10000 visitors you still can make money from that.
People will choose one and not both. It means that if you put an adsense unit together with other ads people will choose one of them. So when you decided to put other ads together with Adsense your CTR will be decreased.
Catch your visitors at the first time. Your visitor probably visit your blog only for seconds or minutes. So put your adsense unit at the location of what your visitors see at your blog, usually your blog post.
Market is always change. This sounds ambiguous, hehe. What i want to say is your adsense good performance this week will not the same with next week. So, when the performance is dropped you have to do something different like rotating the ads, change the ad position, etc.
Each blog is different. You may have different experience with your blog. So you can experiment with your blog and find what is the best for your blog.
